iPhone / OSX x86 development
Ok, I've had an idea for a relatively simple game I would like to develop for the iPhone. Just as a project in my spare time, and who knows, if I mange to pull it off maybe it would be interesting to submit to the app store, but that's not the focus really.
First things first, I need to be running OSX to develop for the platform, so instead of shelling out for a Mac, if I buy OSX for x86 and dual boot, are there any kind of obvious flaws or limitations I am missing?
Secondly, are there any actual iPhone/Mac developers here that I can pick the brains of from time to time as I get familiarized with the platform?
Thanks :)
Re: iPhone / OSX x86 development
You'll need to jump through hoops to get it running, and you're in violation of the license, FYI
Re: iPhone / OSX x86 development
The amount of hoop jumping is minimal, is mainly confined to choosing hardware, and hackintosh is well supported by various online communities. As to the legality, a german company has been selling hackintsh rigs, with original instal media for quiet a while now, they claim that Apples EULA is against German and possibly EU law. Unlike the US hackintosh maker they use an install method that does not require hacked discs. I cant mention names, hexus mods deletd them last time I posted on this subject. I had OSX running on a netbook for a while, soon grew bored with it and went back to xp / ubuntu, but it did run without any problems.
have enjoyed the comments on mac forums about the german hackintosh maker, they are likened to Somali pirates, just waiting for Hitler comments. This is despite legal instal cds / dvds being used, all purchase from a software vendor.
Re: iPhone / OSX x86 development
Ok, well for the sake of keeping the discussion on topic, let's assume I have successfully gotten OSX running on my PC. The legality of this is not a concern, the police are not going to be knocking at my door because I dual boot OSX.
Do we have any apple developers then? Or simple game designers?
Thanks guys :)

I think you can register as a developer and get the iphone SDK for free,
you just have to pay if you want to be able to put it on a physical iphone & sell it on appstore.
If you can already program in C++ then its not too difficult, but I'm not a particular fan of Objective C, or Xcode.
The SDK will work fine on a hackintosh AFAIK at least it did a while back:

i think there's a fee to join the apple developer program (for sdk access). something like $100 a year
