Undoing my foolishness (Google.com -> Google.co.uk)
So, a few months, I thought it would be a good idea to force Firefox to always display Google.com regardless of my location when I type Google.com (as opposed of being redirected to the local version).
What I did not foresee are the downsides of it: the Google search bar on Firefox also defaulted to Google.com, meaning that whenever I search for something to buy, I would end up with suggestions from the US stores. If I type 'Googlemap', I would default on the American continents. Even the highlighting a word, right-clicking and selecting "Search ... on Google" would default the results to US matches.
Unfortunately, I Googled the process to make the switch at the time solution, and now I am not sure how to 'undo' it. Anyone wants to hazard a guess? :help:

I think this is the right page, hmm maybe that just lets you change temporarily. I remember changing it myself once before, and got no idea how to change it back now!
I think you need to go into your browser cookies, and find something one that references en_US and modify it to en_GB. but I'm not sure. You could also clear all "google" cookies and it should detect your location and default to UK
Re: Undoing my foolishness (Google.com -> Google.co.uk)
If you changed it through the website rather than in your browser then it might be stored in a cookie or a flash cookie - try clearing cookies or just delete Google ones or go here and delete any instances of Google from the list: http://www.macromedia.com/support/do...manager06.html
Re: Undoing my foolishness (Google.com -> Google.co.uk)
have you tried about:config
Then in the filter at the top of the page typing in keyword.URL
Finally right click and reset the string variable
If that doesn't work reinstall??

*Head desk*. So it was just a case of cookies. I was so sure that I Googled for a more 'permanent' solution and spent time combing the about:config and FireFox config files 'knowing' for sure that it couldn't be the darn cookies :laugh:
