i thought this might happen when valve announced that they were porting there source games to OSX that there may be also a port to linux aswell looks like it has been confirmed by valve. also some games that already support linux may make it to the steam linux store.
Re: Steam and source Games coming to Linux
That's great news!
I've never particularly liked Steam (something about it running in the background all the time as far as I can remember) but Half-Life 2 was just amazing.
I'm more excited about the potential for developers to use the Half-Life 2 engine natively for Linux and I'm sure its the first step for people moving over to a free, community-based OS rather than some fat, bloated, corporate crap like Windows (I don't particularly care much for Apple either).
P.S. Long live Fedora 8
Re: Steam and source Games coming to Linux
This is really good news and the second step to reducing the Windows dominance as the PC gaming machine. This will hopefully further pressuer MS to really work hard on making Windows as good as it can be.

Seems like it's already pretty good for games, at least compared to OSX. The linux performance is going to have to get a lot closer to windows for it to be taken seriously.
Re: Steam and source Games coming to Linux
iirc correctly linux opengl performance is at least on par with windows though it is all very dependent on drivers ,hell in some cases linux directx (on wine ) performance was at least as good if not better in some cases
