    Office 2007/Office 2010 Interoperability

Having some problems at work with Office 2003 and Office 2007 not playing nicely with each other, causing all sorts of dodgy formatting issues.

So they've decided to upgrade our 2003 installations... problem is, we can't get 2007 any more, we'd have to buy 2010. So what I want to check, before I get 2010, is that it will work properly with 2007.

I know that the file format hasn't changed, so that part's fine - question is, can formatting get mucked up if you edit files in one, then the other, then the other, so on so forth?

I've no experience with it and don't have time to check so I'm hoping that somebody knows

Not that I use Office 2010 alot but all of the work I've done with users of office 2007 has been absolutely fine. Even those brilliant docs where people decide to use line breaks instead of page breaks....

Backwards compatibility should be fine, the .xyzx format hasnt changed with office 2010 so documents should open and be editable in both. Only problem you will face is additional styles are available in 2010 which you won't be able to get in 2007 but at the end of the day they will revert to a default style and you'll still be able to open the document

If you buy MOLP versions of Office 2010, you have downgrade rights for all previous equivalent versions of office. I'd not wanting to be using Office 2010 so early TBH.

    Ahh, brilliant!

I'd not even thought of that. It does include downgrade licenses, yes. I'll be going with Office 2007 then, definitely. A bit boring, maybe, but at the moment all I want is for everything to work properly.

Nice bit of thinking there, cheers.

I'm pretty happy with 2010 having had it for a little while now. I'd already moved up to 2007 and it really isn't much different. Personally, i'd struggle to go back to 2003 now.

    I really don't like using 2003.

Considering how much people moaned about the UI in 2007, I find it so much quicker and easier to use... it just feels more logical.

And I don't spend half of my working day getting the right toolbars in the right positions, since it used to reset every time I logged in at a new terminal.
