well seeing as hexus use subdomaining for the different sections of the site i wondered why this is?
is it simply to do with the look of it or is there a security reason behind this?
thanks

forums.hexus allows you to move the sub domains where u want to, not that a redirect in the folder for hexus/forums wouldnt work as i now have both on the rackage site after moving to the new site on a new machine leaving the forums behind.
Sub-domains are easier to work with as others have pointed out. IIRC and bear in mind I haven't administered anything for about 5 odd years. It can also help your site get pushed up the search engines a bit.
Depends on the size of your site. mysite/forums is probably simpler to set up if you are (say) running a simple site with perhaps a blog. But a large site (like Hrexus) you'll benefit by setting up sub-domains.
