What good free PDF printers are there nowadays?

I have been trying to use primopdf with the wifes netbook for ages now but for some
reason it wont work. This happened in both XP and win 7 (clean installs and updated)
I have seen a few posts around claiming its to do with a windows update and likely
something to do with .net 3.5 etc. If anyone has come across this problem and knows
how to fix it please put me out of my misery.

Anyway I have tried PDFcreator but I don't like it much now as it trys to install all manner
of crap and infects my browser. Also its always trying to contact home or where ever all
the time which I don't like.

Just had a look at pdf995 seems ok but changing quality setting doesnt appear to be easy.

Any other recommendations for free ones?

    Bullzip PDF:

    http://www.bullzip.com/products/pdf/info.php

It's not bad... I've encountered a few oddities with it, but in general it does the job.

Otherwise, I just use something like: http://www.freepdfconvert.com/

Which will do it almost instantly and give you a download link.

Foxit do a pretty decent one, and I use their viewer rather than the bloated to hell Adobe version.

Strange thing I've found out that the Publish as PDF function in office gives a lot larger files than Bullzip PDF (e.g. 250KB v 35KB). Still use the "publish as.." so I don't need to have anything installed on top, though

Re: What good free PDF printers are there nowadays?

Primo has a nice little feature where you drag a file to the Primo icon on the desktop and it auto prints to PDF, it even works with 3D Invenor files

Re: What good free PDF printers are there nowadays?

Sorry, this isn't what the OP asked but it's still related - as Splash said Adobe's Reader is super-bloated, not to mention all the security flaws being found in it recently. I use SumatraPDF myself now, weighs in at under 2MB and it's so much quicker than Adobe. It's not great for printing however, from Wikipedia:
Printing is achieved in Sumatra by transforming each PDF page into a bitmap image. This results in very large spool files and potentially slow printing on printers with little memory
but if you don't print very often you'd struggle to find anything faster/lighter!

Re: What good free PDF printers are there nowadays?

I've seen lots of recommendations for Cute, but personally, and while it won't help Kumagoro, I use Acrobat. And I do mean Acrobat, not Reader. Why, I hear people asking? Because I need to be sure about standards compliance when I'm producing documents for clients.
