    MP3 Splitter (Free?)

    Hello,

I know I could google this and probably find something eventually, but I was wondering if any of you wonderful people had handson experience with one?

Basically I have a series of ~1 hour long DJ sets etc.. and I'd like to split them to tracks, so they are easier on my phone, it doesn't really like skipping through the larger files.

Ideally I'd like to cut it to custom lengths, and not just say, 10 5 minute tracks.

All files are MP3, so no worries about other format support.

    Free is good

    Thanks,

    Peter.

Audacity++, it's really very easy to do little jobs like these.

I wouldn't use Audacity for this, it converts to an intermediate WAV format for editing purposes before re-encoding to mp3, so you'll lose quality from lossy-lossy encoding.

mp3DirectCut works on the mp3 frames directly (no re-encoding), so provided it does what you want (it has nowhere near the feature set of Audacity) it would be a better option.

I'm with CaptainCrash, you want to avoid re-encoding where possible when using a lossy codec like mp3 and I've seen that software recommended a few times.

captaincrash you rule. i do the abovementioned job all the time. Its fairly good with audacitys "place evenly space labels" marker, but a bit annoying because of the time it takes and also the loss in quality. It says that software runs on Linux under Wine so going to give it a go!
