New 6.30 version of WinSMP Client

    Hi folks,

if you haven't noticed, there's a new Windows SMP client. Here's the changes:
What is new in version 6.30?

    * With the release of the mutli-threaded a3 fahcore and work units, and the retirement of the a1 and a2 work unit projects, the MPICH or Deino portion of the SMP client installation is no longer needed. As a result, the client installer and the install.bat have been dropped from the install process. This also removes the requirement to use a Windows user account with a password, although it's always a good idea to use a password.
    * Installing the client as a service is also simpler. Editing the service login account is no longer needed.
    * The SMP console client now behaves much like the CPU and GPU console clients, although the SMP client is still considered a beta client.
I've tried it, and it's caused me some stability problems. With the previous MPICH client, I've folded normally for months. This client causes my system to crash (not enough to freeze, but I do have to restart the PC) in minutes after load.

So, my point is: does anyone else have any stability issues? I would especially be interested to hear from those who have their systems overclocked, since I've undervolted mine, and in essence that is similar (may be not enough voltage for the clock speed).

For now I've stopped folding - I'm not sure I want to raise the voltage just to get it to fold

    Regards,
    Queelis

I thin that this is the one that I installed last night. I'll double check

I installed this... which I've set up to do the bigadv work units (hence the install) and it was still chugging away this morning. If all is well, I'll install on two more of my machines tonight.

Yeah, that's the one. It refused to run on my current voltages (0,1V lower than stock), so I've re-installed the 6.29 client and all is fine again

Re: New 6.30 version of WinSMP Client

I won't know for certain if mine's still folding fine until I get home, but it looks to be judging by my remote stats.

I'm overclocked to 3.54ghz on an i7 920 all at stock voltages on an Asus P6T mobo. the client is currently set to run at 70% of the load of the redundant clock cyles (they recommend 100%, but I bottled it as my rooms already somewhat toasty)

Re: New 6.30 version of WinSMP Client

Nice, I'll give this a go

EDIT: I've got it up and running now, is there any way to pause it i.e. when I want to play a game or something? Or do I just close it and start it up again?

Just close it, preferably by pushing Ctrl + C when the console client is active.

Re: New 6.30 version of WinSMP Client

Back to folding \o/ Upped the CPU voltage (now it's 1.25V instead of stock 1.325V) a bit and now I'm stable again with the 6.30 client

Re: New 6.30 version of WinSMP Client

Going to give this a bash, sorry I've been slacking so much with my folding. That Windows 7 security update screwed me! Everything rebooted and the two machines I mainly fold at don't have mice or keyboards so I've been too lazy to get everything running again.

I've a correction to make - the voltage that I've goy as reported by the bios is not stock, it's 1.35v.
