    Windows XP "Security"

    Hi, just posting my little story here.

    A Friend recently had a laptop for some reason or another and it was set up by an engineer (shes not brilliant with computers). anyway, the guy who set it up left the password on the accoutn when he left and she couldn't use it, me being the local geek i was asked for help, lol. Anyway, to prove how insecure Windows XP is, all i had to do was boot in safe mode, go into the account that way (No p/w in safe mode?) go to users and click remove password, reboot and hey presto, password free account was this jsut a one off or is XP really this insecure? I thought MS had learned their lesson after 98 when all ya had to do was press Alt + Esc a few times at login?

    Anyway, MS security fails again.

    You sure you used the same account in safe mode?

    I know for certain that you still need a password with XP Pro. You even need it for the recovery console (and I think they fixed the "windows 2000 recovery console not needing a password to get on an XP volume" bug.)
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    in a proper domain environment you still need a password unless you are using any of the password reset tools available
    such as ERD or the linux one

    Xp home has no security as it is designed for users that need no seocurity. XP pro can facilitate high levels of security but only if it has been joined to the active directory on a win 2000 / 2003 server that has had its group and security policy configurted by someone that knows something about something

    On my network, booting of floppy's, accesing bios, and pressing f8 at startup is all diabled, once you get to the login screen thats just as secured, cant move the log in screen, cant right click, cant press cntrl-alt-del etc.
