    Winamp, whats the deal?

Ok I am puzzled as heck over this one, I listen to MP3's while I work and I was think the other day it was sounding like my speakers had blown to only two channels as all the settings were right, so I thought I would look a bit further, i can get surround through all channels on MP3's when I use WMP9 but I only get 2 channels on Winamp, and theres no setting to control this!! I have reinstalled it, twice. and it makes no difference.

I don;t wanna use WMP9 all the time cos its horribly clunky and I like the way winamp (5) goes nice and tidy and sits nicely at the top of the screen. Anyone had this before?

    Thanks m@

I think this is how you sort it:

Go to winamp preferences > plugins > output > direct sound output > device settings. Click the use hardware acceleration if its not already clicked, then try again.

Yeah - I had this when I first installed WinAmp, you need to mess around with whats ouputting the sound (In the output plugins), or download the WinAmp ProLogic plugin

I had this problem with my NF7-S onboard sound not too long ago. I had to go into the soundstorm settings and set the sound to 2 speakers - then back to 6 speakers and also had to go to the audio settings in the control panel and adjust in here to reflect this.

I also unchecked the dolby digital encloding in the soundstorm audio settings and this fixed the sound in my case.

    Hope this info helps.

I find the WMP9 toolbar very neat. It sits down the bottem like a minimised program but has pause, stop, back and forwards buttons as well as volume and easy access to your playlists. I dont think it can be skinned different but it is very unobtrusive.
IF you havent doen it before right click on an empty area of the windows taskbar and roll up to toolbars and selct the WMP9 check. Nxt time you minimise WMP it will work.

hmmm, didnt know Winamp could minimize to tray. Stopped using it when wmp9 came out because of it. But I have grown to like WMP9 as a whole anyway. It has a very nice interface, it isn't a mass with useless buttons, and if you do want some for any reason, you can easily access them.
The compact player is also sometihng which I find very useful too, in particular being able to have it on top of other windows for watching films and stuff whilst I browse. Also the fully compact setting for when you are playing music (and don't want to take up system tray space) looks very nice ( I use the 9SeriesDefault skin) is the best one by far. Other skins aren't that great, so if you are looking for personalisation I suppose Winamp would be your friend, but Wmp9 is a nice streamlined player.
