Milton Keynes based - I'd say ballpark salary was about 36k + OT ( bear in mind I did 15k in overtime last year.... ) Job is offered on a 6 month fixed contract / trial.

Hey Moby, which company are you joining??? Good luck in your new job.

Considering the list of "in-depth" knowledge requirements + the rest is £36K basic a fair salary? Or does it reflect high volume of IT techs available in the market?

Also considering > 10,000 logins and mailboxes + cultural awareness we are probably talking a reasonable sized multinational company.

I wish I could forward you my CV.....

    cheers,

Sounds low especially given the 6 month fixed contract / trial condition, but I'm not too familiar with rates outside of the (Greater) London area which may have a (downward) impact.

I only know two people that exceed those requirements and both are on £100k+ (close to £150k) without factoring in overtime. Then again, most job specifications detail an ideal candidate more than the minimum required.

If Moby-Dick was doing all that, hope he asked for (a lot) more .

    cheers,
I've been with the same firm for 4 years , its just an internal transfer I've taken which has left a Moby shaped hole in the operatiosnteam For an operations role its not too bad pay wise , with plenty of Overtime available , you can take home plenty more than the basic. There is also some opportunity for international travel and working for possibly the top firm in its field and most definatly a hosehold name

Its not a contractors role - no need for any overpaid primadonna's here thanks It terms of the spec it is most certainly an ideal one - having been in the role for quite some time , I wouldn't say even I fit that spec perfectly ! in terms of market rates I'm pretty sure we'll get what we pay for. Read into that what you may.

As much as I’d like to disagree, I’ve worked with too many crap contactors in my limited time to debate it. I’d still argue the percentage of bad contractors is lower than permanent but given the usual wage disparity it really should be a lot better.

    Although, a 6 month contract/trial on staff/permanent salary is a bit cheaky on the employer’s part .

It reasonably cheeky , I'd agree but it does help prevent trying to get rid of someone who clearly isn't up to the task - think of it as a long probation period. I believe its a practice taken on from our US colleages
