    Start Up Programs Win7 64

    Guys,

I'm trying to prevent various programs automatically kicking off when win7 loads.

In XP I had a lovely little stand alone program that only required I tick box those programs I wanted to start automatically.

A friend's vista had an inbuilt facility to do exactly the same. An I assume that 7 has the same facility.

Trouble is I can't find it anywhere. I even tried the same route as vista but no joy.

Can any of you kind people point me in the right direction please.

    Many Thanks
Of course I'm perfect you just need to lower your expectations.

    MSCONFIG

type that in the run bar and you can go in and stop applications from starting up when windows loads up

msconfig misses a lot, but it does have some useful aspects.

Autoruns is my first recommendation for this request.

I like ccleaner...used it alot on XP, but I thought I would see what 7 can do before I start clogging up my lovely new hard drive.

Not heard of this before. Is it win7 compatable..presumably so otherwise you wouldn't have highlighted it...more importantly though is it attila proof.

It's fine with Windows 7 x32 & x64 - it's regularly updated by the Sysinternals team at Microsoft. There are many other Sysinternals tools available. The most common ones I use during malware removal and general diagnostics are Process Explorer, Process Monitor and Autoruns. At work I very regularly use psexec, pslist, pskill, bginfo, psshutdown, adexplorer, psloggedon and probably a bunch of others.

Autoruns ain't difficult. Just untick a box to stop it from starting. I can imagine, however, that unticking the wrong thing could screw things up completely.

    HAHA...A challenge

Actually, thanks for this, I'll have a closer look when I have a moment. To be honest I just wanted to turn off messenger and a couple of other things that I know from past experience kick off with out waiting for the ref's whistle.
