    Windows 7 Re-install

My motherboard (NF680i based) died a while back along with my graphics card (new Radeon 5870). I replaced the motherboard with a P45 based one and RMA'ed the graphics card. Anyway I finally got a new card today and so I'm going to re-install Windows 7. However it's an OEM version and whilst I never had problems with Windows 2000 and XP I've heard MS have changed their stance a bit with 7. Now strictly speaking I replaced the motherboard because it was faulty but was unable to replace like for like as no one stocks NF680i boards anymore. Am I going to run into any problems when I re-install?

    Re: Windows 7 Re-install

You might be required to ring MS to activate, but it sounds like you're within license conditions (just don't go changing the CPU at the same time or they'll think you've got a whole new system )

    Re: Windows 7 Re-install

new hardware will probably need phone activation, I have to if i do a fundamental system change with my retail version, IS never a hassle though always automated service MUCH easier than when you used to have to speak to some foreign guy you couldn't really understand.

    Re: Windows 7 Re-install

Guess I'll just give it a go this weekend and see how I get on. Hopefully it isn't too painful.

    Re: Windows 7 Re-install

You should be alright - the phone activation is a bit of a pain in the neck, but in the end you just get an automated voice asking you how many PCs you have the license installed on. Assuming the answer is "One", all is usually well.
