Windows 7 Student upgrade on new system?

    Hi guys,

I have a question regarding this:

    http://www.software4students.co.uk/M...n-details.aspx

I am about to build my 1st system and I was going to get this to save some cash but, as its a new system, I am guessing I won't be able to upgrade since there will be no previous version present?

If this is the case does anyone know if its possible to get a discounted full version for students? I already have Vista on my laptop but I'm guessing Microsoft won't be much interested in that

    Thanks...

Damn you guys work fast! Thanks very much I'll read thru that now...

EDIT: 'Many, many readers report that they have been able to simply treat the Windows 7 Upgrade media as if it were Full media, and that it just works. And you know what? It doesn't hurt to simply try this method, because if it doesn't work, you can then try methods 2 and then 3, in order, afterwards. There is no downside to trying this.'

Excellent! - fingers crossed for an easy life!

    Hi Aled,

Were you installing on a new/clean build and, if so, did you have any problems installing?

Re: Windows 7 Student upgrade on new system?

Sorry to bump this thread but I just wanted say that I have just got Win7 student uprade going using the double install method in the link you provided so thanks. I noticed other people asking about this recently.

A word of warning though - do not bother phoning MS as the article recommends. The robots at the end of the phone are useless, script-reading automotons. It is quicker and easier to just go straight to the double install method if the 1st recommendation fails.

New build seems to be completely fine, stable and, most importantly, exactly what I want so thanks for all your help!

As this seems to be a way of subverting the EULA of the software, and therefore not something that HEXUS condones. the thread is closed.
