Video converter? Rendering thing - .mts files

Right, my dad's got a load of .mts files that he wants to put onto DVD/a smoother format than using codecs to watch them on the PC rather choppily.

Do you know of any free/cheap programs (even if it's done on trial) that I can use to convert/render these files to a suitable filetype? Ideally CUDA support so my GTX460 can lend a hand and make it a bit quicker. I'm not really big on video software so simple is good

Also, what filetype am I looking to convert into? I want to retain most of the quality (as it's a 1080p HD cam, 5.1 surround) but not so much that it takes a year and complicated settings to render in. I thought MPEG4 would be about best?

Just a cheapish DVD player. He just wants to put them on DVD so can show them people on their DVD players etc.

    Have you used it?

Nope haven't used it. Was told about it by a friend. Don't know about the syncing side of things. Why not download it and try it?

Re: Video converter? Rendering thing - .mts files

    Yeah will do, cheers

EDIT: It works but the quality is really poor, have tried several different formats and all come out fuzzy and out of sync :/ That's with the highest settings I can find.

Just used Cyberlink expresso and that seems to have done the trick Is all good quality and has GPU enabled processing so 3GB took 20minutes
