PC coming out of sleep at 3 every morning

    Hi

Been trying to work this out for a while, I want to put my computer into sleep mode at night rather than turning it off. But for some reason, every morning at 3 it starts up. I've had a look through and changed the time Windows checks for updates which was set at 3 but thats not helped.

Any ideas? What else runs at 3 that would force the PC to come out of sleep mode?

My PC's in my bedroom so don't want it waking me up every morning!

    Thanks for any help!

As above - Is the default time for Windows Update not around 03:00?

Check for entries in the task scheduler.

Re: PC coming out of sleep at 3 every morning

    Thanks for the help everyone.

I dont think theres a defrag running at all, as I said windows update is now set to 4 pm for updates (it was 3AM). And I used Microsoft Security Essentials which I think updates through the Windows Update.

Wheres the task scheduler? That may hold the answer to my problem!

Re: PC coming out of sleep at 3 every morning

Check it's not Windows Media Centre trying to go online for program updates. I had a similar, bewildering wake from sleep issue on one of my Windows 7 PCs and it turned out to be that.
Have a look here, for example.

Re: PC coming out of sleep at 3 every morning

Sometimes there's an option in the BIOS for the PC to wake up at a particular time, I think. Maybe that's it?

Re: PC coming out of sleep at 3 every morning

change the winodows clock by 12 hours?

just to get some sleep and make sure it's a timed function and not something else, like Wake on Lan on your BIOS

Might want to turn off automatic time synchronisation too then
My only concern is should I hide my true identity? A costume maybe?

0iD: Plus weeing in it every now & again does it good
scaryjim: 10" is just a little large to hold comfortably in one hand, which makes it a lot harder to tap, swipe and generally interact with.

Re: PC coming out of sleep at 3 every morning

    Thanks!

I had a quick look at the Task Scheduler last night and there are a few things set for 2.30 and 3.00. Like adobe updater and things.

Why would companies set their update times for early morning? Surely thats when the majority of PC's are switched off?

Re: PC coming out of sleep at 3 every morning

I think it's because they assume your PC is going to be on 24/7 so they pick a time you not likely to be using it to do the updates. Have you managed to disable the tasks?
