Just curious as to what software you guys/girls use for web development.
I currently use Dreamweaver CS4 and Photoshop CS4 on my PC but looking to get a mac soon so quite interested to hear what people use.

Eclipse and xampp - with Notepad++ for any spot editing
Visual Studio (express editions at home)
MS Visual Web Developer Express and Notepad++.
It really depends.
'web development' covers a wide range of evils.
Some people write shockingly awful scripting code. The php magic variables type of code. (horrifically insecure)
Some people write massive complex things which take ages to write because they are making plenty of unit tests, using some framework (MVC/Rails) and expect a debugger.
The tools really vary between. For graphics? On the whole Photoshop will run better on the PC, because of the lower hardware price and quality hardware accelerated graphics cards (thou little in CS5 really uses it imho) and proper 64bit.
throw new ArgumentException (String, String, Exception)
QFT.
At work I develop almost exclusively in .NET. As a result I mostly use Visual Studio 2K5 Pro and SQL Server Management Studio Express 2K5 / 2K8 / 2K8R2 (depending on which server & database I'm working on at the time ). But for quick edits to static HTML or "trivial" code changes I'll also use Notepad++ as it's much quicker to start up. I don't want to spend more time waiting for my editor to open than I'm going to spend editing the page.
At home I generally write in php, and I often use plain old notepad, as I tend to develop on a variety of different machines and they don't all have dev environments set up. I am, however, currently working on setting up a dedicated home "work" machine, so I'll probably get a more useful environment set up on that.
Much to my bosses chagrin, I'm really not a designer, so at work I don't use any graphics package at all if I can avoid it But when I do use one, it's generally Paint.NET - both at work and at home. I also have a copy of Paint Shop Pro / Animation Shop Pro kicking around which I quite like.
Thanks for all the responses so far. I've had a bit of a play with Notepad++ at uni and it's quite impressive. The only reason I use dreamweaver is because it's what I'm use to I guess, although I do like the CMS integration in CS5.
Never tried Git yet - but use Tortoise (and the internal Eclipse) SVN is two more to add to my list
Sorry to threadjack slightly, but I need to get a version control system in place at work now they've hired a second developer. How easy is git to set up, and how well do you think it would work alongside a predominantly MS-based development environment? I looked at it briefly years ago but back then I was working on my own and didn't need much beyond sensible file-naming conventions and a good memory as far as version control went
This will help: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Git_(software)#Portability
I mainly use git because most high profile projects use it. Canonical's Bazaar version control is another option too: http://doc.bazaar.canonical.com/expl...r-windows.html

Haven't used Git but for version control, SVN (with Tortoise interface) is very simple and works well, for a team of 2 or 20. I would recommend trying it
Tortoise is very good - but it does live up to its name at times.
