    Starting Windows screen hang

basically for some reason this morning, everytime i turn my pc on, it hangs on the starting windows screen for about 20 minutes before it boots to the desktop normally.

when it did boot to the desktop, i did a disk defrag and checked the health of the hdd.

what do you think is causing the hang at that screen?

OS is win7 home premium btw

ps. may try a system restore once my pc boots to desktop!

boot into safe mode and type msconfig into the search box, disable startup items and try again, if it still does it disable none microsoft services, once it does boot add things back in blocks until you can narrow it down to 1 thing.

    Re: Starting Windows screen hang

windows is now running a chkdsk on one of my other hard drives (not the one that the OS is on)

someone on a different forum reported they had a similar problem, and the chkdsk fixed it, so hopefully this is a solution.

I realise that by now (hopefully) you may have fixed this, but if not, do you have any usb devices attached to your pc that are not normally connected when booting. I ask because I have 2 usb hdds, if one is connected while booting it is fine, but if the other is, then the boot time is noticeably slower.

Thanks but i managed to fix this.
The problem was one of the HDD's which was in need of a chkdsk. Booted up without that HDD power cable in, and worked fine.
