Nice. Welcome aboard! Are you folding for Hexus?
Yeah, but having a few problems. I left it to work (although it was stuck on 0 % 0 of 500000 before I left) and it went into sleep and wouldn't wake up when I got home. It's made progress now, but does the computer going into sleep conflict with folding?
To quote someone else
Hibernate takes a snapshot of everything you got on RAM (including any windows and apps running) and saves it to a special hard disk file and then shuts the computer down, when you resume from hibernation the computer boots a bit faster than a normal power up bootup. This method does not consume any power while the computer is off.
Uses: When you are not going to use the computer for a few hours or more.
Sleep, basically shuts your computer down except some components like RAM, so the next time you resume, it will boot almost in an instant. However, this method consumes battery power.
Uses: When you are just leaving the computer for a few minutes or hours, like at lunchtime or something like that.
In short, when in sleep or hibernation, the laptop will do not work, just be ready to come back on.
So that might be why computer crashed?
Work/no work conflict?![]()
Sounds to me like it didn't sleep correctly, or had turned off after a prolonged sleep.
Some programs really don't like being slept or hibernated - I've seen (well, heard) graphics drivers have real problems on resume from sleep/ standby / hibernate, and a variety of programs just stop working, or automatically quit or restart. So it could well be that folding just doesn't like being suspended by hibernate / sleep / standby...

My Hitachi HDD used to give me a problem in win 2000. It doesn't now on different mobo and win7.

Got another annoying 250k step WU but each % takes half an hour instead of 10 mins... Any idea how to get another 500k step one?
Well, you can delete the work unit data and get a new one, but that's damaging the project, so I wouldn't advise it.
yeah I'm finishing it off. It's about 47% done now so not gonna quit it. Any way to get the 500k ones in the future or doesn't it matter, as this one is worth more points?
I don't believe that you can force it to use only certain wu's, because it depends what is being put out there in the first instance, however I did read a while back that there was a shortage of BIGADV workunits, and due to that the points were "drying up"
Personally I just leave the maximum amount of resourse availalable - my work rate does vary somewhat as a result. Call it a brute force method with me. 1xGTX 295 + 1xGTX285 on 24/7 and a GTX 480 probably could run more efficiently.... Your man's probably Queelis or Josh for this kinda thing....
If anyone does know for sure though...

The rule of the thumb is the bigger the project (takes longer), the more credit you get. You might get a WU which takes two days, but in the end it'll probably be worth the same credit as you might get with several smaller WUs.
Personally, I just fold any WU I get, not that bothered about points anymore![]()
This one has taken 3 days so far (although not 24/7)
Certainly 48 hours anyway.
1400 points for the WU. Worth it I guess![]()
