Windows 7 update problem every boot

Two weeks ago I installed the latest Windows 7 update today and when I rebooted it it said it was installing the update and not to turn of the PC it stayed on 0% installed for I think about 15 minutes then said it was reverting to previous settings.

It started Windows OK then but when I turn it off it does the same thing and takes another 15 minutes before the PC can be used.

Has anyone experienced anything similar and can offer any solution?

    Thanks

    Phil

Re: Windows 7 update problem every boot

I've seen this before on Windows Vista, when the updates came down they were corrupted some how, I would either run system restore to see if you can take it back before this happened, find out where Windows Update files are downloaded to and delete them, and then run Windows Update again and download then all again.

If this doesn't work then I'd advise on re-installing Windows again from scratch.

Also this needed to be put in the Software section of the forum and not GD.

Same thing happened to me last week. Ran Windows Update and installed everything available and it went away after a couple of reboots.

What behemoth said. : Had the same issue with the latest updates, all sorts of odd crashes. Had to start in Safe mode and restore the system, then re-applied updates. Seems OK now.

Re: Windows 7 update problem every boot

Did you also download optional updates (graphics card for instance)? Or was it only the recommended updates?

Boot in safe mode and check the logs. See if you can troubleshoot then.

I never do the optionals without examing them closely. Had a bad experience with optional driver updates to the network card.

All optionals except drivers. Handle drivers yourself.

    Me too.
It sorted itself after 2 or 3 boots.

Re: Windows 7 update problem every boot

I have had problems with XP before to do with .NET updates. I used a prog called something like
dotnetfix which removes all the .netupdates from the system. Its worth a try
