Same goes for other presets such as Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Mythbuntu, Netbook Editions for Ubuntu and Kubuntu, etc... No DVD images yet though. But I'm downloading it now, looks like there's some interesting developments.

I can finally get round to rebuilding my media server. I tried an upgrade (Xubuntu) to the beta but it caused massive performance issues so I ended up reverting to snapshot. Will try a build from scratch this time methinks

What's actually in this release? Seems to mention 'cloud' a lot and better Android/iPhone integration, but I can't see what's so special.

Currently I'm running Fedora 13 quite happily and trying to work out whether I should wait for F14 or try Ubuntu 10.10 or go for something totally different next. Choices choices. Maybe a review would help?

Well the release notes give a pretty good summery, but here's a nasty German translated review for you: http://translate.google.com/translat...0-1104738.html

It looks like the DVD images are replicating, now.

So ... Ubuntu Font, Ubuntu One, Unity UI for laptops, Ubuntu Shopping Centre (or whatever it's called) ... not much I'm interested in this time round.

I plan to get a SSD early next year and so if 11.04 uses BTRFS then that might be the time to try it.

Re: Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick Meerkat) has been released.

Lol, I only updated my server from 9.04 to 10.04 a month ago and my desktop from 8.04 to 10.04 just before that.

I'm tempted to flatten my rig, get an SSD for the OS and run a FUSE ZFS /home instead of RAID-5.

edit: And it doesn't look like there's much point in me upgrading my media centre rig as I'm already tracking mythtv-0.24.

I might give this a go in a week or so after the initial download frenzy has finished. I did just try but it was going to take quite a while to download. It's a long time since I have used Ubuntu or any of the nixes so it's about time I got a box up and running again.

Surely there are torrents up to solve that problem, for those who are eager.

Re: Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick Meerkat) has been released.

How can I put 10.10 netbook on a usb drive to be able to install it? I've tried the latest Universal USB installer and it has options for 10.10 desktop, but not the netbook version. Does it have to be an option on the drop down list or can I just browse for the iso and do it that way? I managed to do 10.04 with Universal USB Installer, but there was an option for that in the drop down menu anyway.

Just download the iso and browse to it, you'll get the same result.

I missed the option at the very bottom to "Try a different ISO". Seems to be working now.

I'm actually rather enjoying this release, while there isn't any super-duper major improvements, there's a lot of polish here which is just making things very pleasant to use, now if only Evolution would just hide itself on close instead of quitting.

    Are you sure?
    https://help.ubuntu.com/community/btrfs
    says:
"Canonical confirms btrfs won't happen until 11.04"

There was some will-they/won't-they over the summer, but the probability of inclusion went down as time went on.

There's no fsck tool for btrfs, so I'm not sure I'd trust anything to it for the moment anyway.
