Hi all,
Would be grateful for any recommendation for a free software to download Youtube videos from its website (I believe they are FLV videos?).
Anyways, something light. I don't need any video editing. Just pure download features (if there are any such program).

There are loads of firefox plugins for this.
Did you want specific software as an alternative to that?

realplayer can downloads flv's.
check in preferences > download and recording (although i seem to remember that theres an option to enable it, while you are installing it)
I've used Keep Tube (an online medium) for this in the past (it offers the various qualities/sizes of each video too).
2nd for youtube downloader. very small app, will grab highest quality file it can find, and very simple

took me a couple of goes to realise that you need to download as HD to get the HD content, but ever since then I've been amassing music videos at a rate of knots....
Tooble is great if you want iphone compatible versions

If you use Linux on any of your computers, just copy/paste the cache files from /tmp/ they start with Flash followed by some random characters, IIRC; just wait until the video is fully buffered. You can drag them onto something like VLC and they will play but you can add the .flv extension to make them easier to open, obviously.
Just don't download anything copyrighted.
