Nice one folks. Exciting news about the ATI client. Wonder if it'll actually be a level playing field and comparable to the Nvidia one, or whether this will actually be better performing. I hope it is for the sake of the market....

    Re: Folding Chit-Chat

Blargh, the v7 is only for beta-testers

First few reports about the openMM GPU core: a 5870 gets ~9000PPD, a 5770 - ~6300. Around two-fold improvement, but nothing's set in stone as these are beta work units.

Edit: looks like us simple folks won't be getting the v7 client all too soon. Quite a lot of bugs still present, so it's too early for it to go public. Dang.

    Re: Folding Chit-Chat

Well, will have a 560 in my main rig soon, and if the ATI client gets better, then the 4890 may find it's way into the media rig.

Most smp wu seem to be about 8 hours on the i5. Will probably have to reduce to one wu a day soon. Littlembit worried about the next electric bill. Drawing about 190 from the wall and has now been on for a week! Mrs teamsreth is getting grumpy.

Is that all? I imagine Kali's pulling well over 300 with the GPU and CPU being hammered by folding...

Oh, and edit to say - next update I should break 300K

Second edit to say: the 6am update hadn't rolled round yet so I *have* broken 300K

    Re: Folding Chit-Chat

Am only running The smp 24/7 at the moment. Will change to using the smp and ambitious of gpu on my 560(if any ever come in to stock!!!) but gpu won't be used as often. Nearly had a 10k day today.

    Top 100 here I come!

I think I worked out that the smp at 190watts was gonna cost £180 on top of the normal bill.... Will the pc running 24/7 cause any issues with lifetime on the components? CPU is @ 3.4 and temps at 36 ish with 100% load.

    Edit: I meant 10k last 24 hours.

I am off folding for a week or two while my brother-in-law stays with us

We have had to put him up in my study and he doesn't like the "buzzing" of my computer while he sleeps. Sorry fellas.

Looks like I will have my video quality back soon then I have said in the past that nVidias implementation is sub par compared to the Radeons, not that I will be upgrading anytime soon as I am happy with what I have, but at least I can consider ATi's options from now on.

Temps are low, won't cause any damage.

About the cost: your PC running 24/7 will use ~144kWh of electricity a month. Do you mean that you pay more than a pound/kWh?

That seems about what I'd get with my very rough estimate of 1 24/7 watt = £1 per year.

A Batch file is your friend at that point. just stick it in the startup folder.

    Code:
    Echo off
echo Allowing machine to fully boot
    ping 127.0.0.1 -n 100
    echo start folding
    c:\fh6\fh6.exe -smp -bigadv
    exit
    Change as required.
