Forgive me if I sound dismissive, but I'm looking at the components and that's basically a Q6600 rig, which would get you a couple of thousand points per day - scaryJim can you verify?

PPD wise, you've be better off investing in a new GFX card.... Be nice as a hobby box or a great way to get into folding if you're not already....

Have a look in the minidump file, or when you next turn the machine on. I would think there would be something in the logs.

Then look up the code in this handy list to find out why it crashed, and action accordingly...

Running an 8800GT + Q6600 on -smp 3, you can turn ~ 7.5k. A Q6600 on its own should put in about 4k. A decent rig for the outlay, but certainly not spectacular compared to the points you should be able to pull in with, say, a marginally more expensive Phenom II X6 + GTS450 (I reckon you could put together a minimal rig with that set up for ~ £400)

and agreed it would be more for someone who's looking for a ready made box ready to fold!

I tell you something... that kit Unions got on the go seriously kicks out some points! He's not banging out BIGADV Every day, but every 3rd day while running the GPU client(s). That's seriously going some. Begs the question how many points would his 2600K pump out if it didn;t have to power the GPU's as well! I've found negligible benefit having them all running simultaneously on 12 cores, so to be doing what he's doing 8 seriously begs the question...

In other news, this weekend is the server rebuild, starting this evening. My remnants of my server folding rig will start going onto ebay shortly afterwards unless someone in here shouts out first with a reasonable price for some of the kit, comprising:

i7 950 ES (Known to do 4Ghz. Not pushed higher yet. Capable of 34k ppd when run on UD5 with GTX 285
P6T (Retail Boxed)
Gigabyte EX58-UD5 (Retail Boxed)
Dark Power Be Quiet 750 W PSU
Antec 900 case
Gainward GTX 285 GS (Retail Boxed)

These items will be listed on Ebay unless someone has some interest on here, in which case I'll bung them in the classifieds here.

In other news, I've recently "won" a Vapochill PE barebones unit on ebay, which I'll be testing when it arrives. I'm looking forward to building myself a case to house that bad boy. Need to make sure that it can handle my CPU though first - it's not new (dur - Asetek stopped making them a while back), and so far it hasn't arrived. All being well though that should set up my main rig to get it up to the 4.6-5.0 Ghz that I was shooting for. Gives me a nice project to work on at least.... not that I haven't got one or two in the pipeline...

It showed as a 124 error. Have bumped ip the vtt and will have to spend time over the weekend redoing the overclock.

OK OK OK. Benching unit is back on and folding away while I'm being too lazy to decommission it..... That's another 20-25k to the cause (It's not running BIGADV - not upgraded the client)...

Also, we appear to have had a response regarding the metrics used on GFX cards that I've been.... erm.... "nagging" about.

Well as my GTX 260 isn't in my rig anymore I'm stopping GPU folding (don't think ATI folding is currently much cop?!)

However when my Phenom II X6 gets here I'm going to see what it can do!
