In other news i have been putting off replacing my sandybridge motherboard but i feel i have no choice now as i am really starting to see the impact of slower data rates on my two other drives i have hooked up to the SATA II ports...grrr....so in anticipation i went out and bought some decent thermal paste for when i have to re-seat the cpu heat-sink, what a time-sink .

Also had my first DEWA (Dubai Electricity & Water authority) bill since some serious folding has taken place....lets just say my bill shot up by just shy of £100..

Back in the UK for a week on Monday so will leave it running 24/7 and hope the router doesn't freak out.
Any chance you could have a look at the "Meet the folders". Be nice to know the face of the man that's down to overtake me....

    Jim

On a serious note, you'll have 3 months of folding in advance - I'll be stopping for the summer (away from home). But when I come back, an X6 is possible - just you wait

Are you folding on GPU and SMP ?
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

    Re: Folding Chit-Chat

folding both for a total of 3 clients.

Running 1 GPU client per card (FahCore_15.exe)
The CPU client (FahCore_a5.exe) running bigadv work units.

I will be glad when the GPU client doesn't use some CPU cycles for processing, it should see my CPU rate increase by a measurable margin i think.

Easter holidays have rolled round - I'm off to Holland in a couple of days. I am, therefore, canning the folding for the next 2 weeks(ish). I may have to start May with a bang just to catch up for lost time

    Re: Folding Chit-Chat

It's been SOOO quiet around here the past few days. 3 days since the last comment is unheard of!

I've been working on getting my Sandybridge rig stable. I managed to get up to 4900Mhz and folding - it's the only rig I've got going at the moment, and is solely responsible for the 45k ppd I'm currently producing.

I managed to sell one of my RIIE motherboards and will continue to sell off my remaining bits to fund this habit that I've developed.

My server re-build is taking longer than anticipated. Got most of the water cooling loop in last night, but had an early night. Have been sick with a cold this week, and working through like the martyr that I am Should get most of it up and running over the weekend. It's looking like I'm going to have:

    P6t mobo
    12Gb DDR Ram
i7 970 CPU (previously 980X, which will be going on ebay)
    500gb primary OS drive
5x1TB hard drives in Raid 5 (previously 3x)
1xGTX 295 with waterblock, adding a second when I've managed to fix it
1xCorsair HX850 PSU (Previously Be Quiet Dark Power 750W which will be going on ebay)
and an optical ATA133 DVD RW drive

cooling is going to be dealt with via:
    1x Swiftech GTZ
    1xXSPC single bay res
1x2.120 Swiftech rad (with 2x120mm fans, mounted in push in the base of the rig
1.140 XSPC rad with 2x140mm fans mounted in push/pull mounted above the IO shield at the back of the rig
1x1.120 double width phobya rad with 120mm fan in push
and a Swiftech DDC 18w pump pushing the water/fluid through it all.

It's looking like a hell of a wiring job getting all those drives in and tidily cabled up. I'll stick some piccys in the hardware modding section with a link to it in here of what I've done so far so anyone interested can track my progress.

I've commandeered a 3 bay module from my Antec 902 rig which happens to fit beautifully in the front of the HAF 932 case that I'm using, giving me a total of 8 possible disks in this rig, which should be enough. I've a 2TB drive that I'm backing everything up to at the moment which I was tempted to put in the machine, but that does defeat the object of having the backup if it's in the same machine. If that goes pop, then.... well, that's a lot of photos, music, and our films all gone, along with the only living copy, so that's a no goer.

The intention is that this machine folds 24/7, is my media server and has a few virtual machines installed on it so that I can play on it remotely. I'd dearly love to get an SR-2 board as that would be beyond my current hardware requirements, but I know I'd end up just folding on it and going bankrupt with paying for it and the leccy bills...

I have a vapochill unit which I picked up fairly inexpensively which I was going to use to cool my 970 but checking the spec, it would have to be running flat out just to keep up with it, making it run VERY close to maximum capacity. I thought I could use it on my sandybridge rig, but I can't seem to get my 2600K to get hot! 4.9Ghz and 1.42-1.45 v depending on load and it's still only 55Degrees, so that vapo unit is either going back on ebay, or used elsewhere.

My first thought was to mount the vapo chiller so that the COLD end is mounted vs a water block and chill the fluid of the water cooling rig as it flows through - that could be used as a kinda turbo in times of excessive heat - that's a project for another day because it'll depend on the heat of the main rig its to cool. It could be mounted in the 902 rig next to the HAF 932 with the rest of the space in that rig used to house hard drives as our storage needs increase, which would be connected by a PCI-e rocket raid type card. Depends on how the rads hold up with the load I'll be putting on them...

4900GHz, insane clocks 45K PPD ain't bad for a single SMP unit, I'd say Keep on folding.

On my front, only a bit more than a month left until I leave for the great big US of A, so then the folding will stop, sadly. But excited to go to America nevertheless

Makes my punny 11000ppd from my i5 750 seem really sad.

What power is that pulling from the wall?

It could be mounted in the 902 rig next to the HAF 932 with the rest of the space in that rig used to house hard drives as our storage needs increase, which would be connected by a PCI-e rocket raid type card. Depends on how the rads hold up with the load I'll be putting on them...
Be careful doing that, my experience with vapochills is that the can and will freeze water in a loop, potentially blocking the flow, but more importantly can make parts or even all of your loop go a fair bit below ambient, which can lead to all sorts of condensation issues.
Saying that though a friend had a vapochill XE II and got his P4 upto 3.95ghz with it stable and benched it at 4.25ghz, all at a toasty -30C, so all sorts of good clocks can be had with them, though the older ones at least weren't exactly silent.
