Gutted. Any chance of enrolling your home computer? Second in the multithreaded charts for the CPU will get you 40k ppd and that's just you 95 watt cpu.... Albeit using 2-300 Watts in total (estimated) for your rig. Surely you don;t need the CPU for that paid-for-folding malarchy, assuming that you're still doing that...?

2-300 watts. its more like 600 according to the wall monitor, although that is with all the monitors active.

Issue I have is heat - when I last moved the pc, something happened and my 2-3 degree temp difference when back to a 8-10 degree difference, which underload is cuase for concern as the cpu is hitting 71 degrees plus. I'm tempted to look into a h80 if the h60 really cant cope with the heat produced.

this is the little thing of cost too. I have no idea how you guys afford to keep your rigs folding with the cost of electric these days

71 is not particularly hot IMO. When folding, mine peaks at 73, and has sat there for some time, but usually is in the high 60's - that's with a Phobya double width 3.120 rad and Scythe fans - you may find that the temperature was more to do with the work that was being performed rather than the performance of you cooler - no doubt a bigger model would knock a couple more degrees off, but I wouldn't bank on it being too dramatic - those H50's are pretty good. I've no experience with the Corsair units, just what I've read and surmised, plus my own observations with 3 watercooled 2600K rigs over the past couple of months, folding 24/7.

To put it in context, I recently sold on a 2600K CPU that seemed to run particularly hot -

    it was a 2600K,
    The one I've retained:
    - under water on my sabertooth it idled at 0.92v, rising to 1.24v under load (stock) and on the P7V68 Pro it was 0.90v rising to 1.22.

    The one I sold on:
    - with a stock cooler on my sabertooth it idled at 0.98v, rising to 1.34v under load (stock) and on the P7V68 Pro it was 0.94v rising to 1.28.

The hot one was at about 81C under air, yet in a water cooled rig only dropped to 73C - The cooler one hit 77C on air dropping to 73C under water.

The water loop has 4x2.120 rads, 2 DDC pumps and 8 Scythe fans at full whack. The water is WHIZZING around the loop (the pumps are in series but at opposite ends of the loop to equalise the pressure across the loop). Basically I can see the loops are moving the fluid round, and I can feel the heat that is being taken out the loop by virtue of the fact that my room is warming - just can't take any more heat out the rig. With a different CPU and a different board, and different memory my temps drop to 63C under load.

that's why I think it may just be your CPU being a tad warmer than you'd like.

If it's any consolation, your rig at 4.6 is faster than my same one(s) at 4.6 doing the handbreak tests. I couldn't get within 1.5 secs of you for the Tron trailer coding time, so you've got something set up right. Mine is definitely stable as they are on and folding 24/7 and I've got the BCLK as high as I can before I start getting stability problems (usually after 4 days if I go above 102.5mhz, so I backed down to 102.3)

Why do you think 71 is hot?

You're only showing 10k on EOC but I'm sure that'll grow - the stats take a while to move as it's based on a rolling period not an absolute time window like "last 24 hours average"

We're back up to 23 folders active at the moment, so well done folks. Keep on folding

    Re: Folding Chit-Chat

Folks, what do you think: is 47C for a Phenom II X4 965 okay with a Mugen II Rev. B?

My Katana III was doing 50C, although was far noisier - even though the Mugen is also spinning at its max RPM. Maybe I didn't tighten it enough? Or can it be my Gigabyte motherboard with crappy PWM? There's no reason for the cooler to be spinning at max when the CPU is only 47C.

    Either:

    1. Slow the fans down and have an ultimately silent machine...
    2. Enjoy a noisy, but COOOOOL system
    3. Overclock it some more!

    Re: Folding Chit-Chat

Oh, my other fans are already at 7V - the 92's are spinning at 1200RPM (instead of 1500) and the 120 is spinning at what I'd guess to be around 700-800RPM (that header does not report the fan speed for some reason). I can barely hear it when I'm in bed - no trouble sleeping at all (the GPU fan is also fixed at some 45%, pretty quiet).

I bet I could overclock it, but my goal is silence, after all Checked out the X6es, but it's just not worth the investment IMO. Though I should check for how much I could sell my X4 first..

Depending on how BD fares i wouldn't mind offloading my 1100T to you at a fairly cheapish fellow Folder discount.

I think you should do a suicide run folding test and buy the X6 off Terbi

... but there again I'm likely to say that.

I've just sold my 980X cpu. I'm down to 2 quad cores grinding out at the moment with little or no opportunity to expand on that. The wife's machines upstairs, but that's hardly going to make a dent in 1stRavens lead - 9600 GS plus a E8600 adds a couple hundred points to the mix, but that's all. I keep seeing SR-2 boards up for sale and thinking about buying, but I really can't afford to.

Well, I would certainly be interested. I think shipping to Lithuania from the UK isn't that expensive - I've already had my X4 965 shipped to me from the UK, but I wasn't paying The bigger issue would be how to transfer the payment - Western Union? Something else?

I've just set up a payment company called the Centralised Auditable Specialist Holdings. If you send me a cheque made payable to C.A.S.H. I can pass to the intended recipient at no risk...

Oh hold on - shouldn't I do that with a Nigerian accent to make it sound more authentic.

Seriously though, try using PayPal Gift or Bank Transfer. PPG is free and they do the currency exchange rather than havign to faff around with your bank.

I'd also recommend that you get any sale captured in a thread in the http://forums.hexus.net/classifieds-sell-your-stuff/ part - it just keeps things tidy, and who knows - you might end up buying/selling more stuff through there, in which case this might be useful to reference
