Haev you tried running BIGADV's or are you just running SMP units?
I'm not 24/7 atm, and probably never will be () but I'll more than likely be a lot more active as it starts to get colder. I'm also in the middle of moving house as well

I've not bothered with SMP's as they take too long on the X6 as it's just no worth it. An overclocked X6, which is needed really, probably draws more than my 480 and has a lower PPD. I do have a 3rd party cooler for my 480 so i would feel safer running that for longer per day but the screws on the 480 are knackered and now i can get thr stock cooler off

Saying that, I don't know if there is an issue with my SMP client as it says the WU's are worth anywhere between 600-700 which seems a bit low, i think?

On the BIGADV front i know some Linux trickery is involved on that front so if i do look inot it will be around Christmas time as i'll be a way form the computer being merry and such. I may need some advice on setting this up however

Edit: Is there any 'special' or BIGADV units for the GPU so i could eschew some more points out of it?

Bigadv requires 8 cores (threads) so wouldn't work on a X6?

That's where the Linux trickery comes in!

That sounds like the points for the basic unit, without bonus points. Have you turned in SMP units in the past under your username? If so it should pick that up and awards bonus points which will push your X6 up to or past 10k ppd. If not you'll have to put up with 10 WU of suckery before you start rocking the bonus points.

Oh, and an overclocked X6 should pull significantly less that the ~250W a 480GTX pulls...

I did used to get the bonus points then they just stopped after i had to re-install the client, its not been right since - this has affected me across both Intel/AMD.

Really? I just thought that given the chip is ~125W at stock, sticking up to 1.45v through it to keep it stable would be approaching if not exceeding 250W - i say this, i haven't actually looked at any X6 TDP figures to think this.

    Re: Folding Chit-Chat

Bear in mind with Bigadv there is a time limit on each core, usually about 2 - 3 days.

As a side note the team I was folding for appears to have died so I have moved my boxes over to Hexus, I look forward to occupying second place and pushing for top spot

    Re: Folding Chit-Chat

Aye, a BIGADV on a X6 would need a beefy overclock and be left alone for over a day.

On my i7 920 clocked at 3.8GHz it still took just over 2 days per unit, beefy overclock on a X6 is a understatement!

Is 3.8Ghz a beefy overclock? Thought you could get 4ghz out of an X6?

    http://www.overclock.net/overclock-n...igadv-amd.html

It's worth a look. I was more interested in the BIGBETA work units as they are worth a couple hundred-thousand points - not sure my 4.6Ghz overclocked 2600K would get through the work in time, but I will have a look at some point, probably Xmas now before I'll get the time though

Welcome aboard! Look forward to seeing you in the stats at the end of the month!

    Re: Folding Chit-Chat

You could [only got a H50 here] get more, but heat becomes an issue (Don't forget these have a higher TDP than the i7's).

I don't know how O/Cing on AMD affects performance as well. I could just crank the multiplier up to 20 and get 4GHz but some suggest even with an unlocked CPU, adjusting the HTT link is better. In addition to this, I'm not sure how much, if at all, the CPU/NB speed affects folding.

What's the stock voltage on that? Assuming 1.35v stock, if you bumped the vcore to 1.45v I'd expect to see a (... quick calculations ...) 15% increase in power draw. You'll also get a linear increase from the clock speed increase, so if you've got a 20% OC (1100T @ ~4GHz!) too then you're looking at .. hmmm .. more quick calcs ... around 175W - assuming you're completely maxing out the TDP in the first place.

You'd have to go a long way to double the power draw of a processor through overclocking

Vcore on AMD's [not trying to condescend here btw] is a lot different to Intel's. Even at idle, i don't think the Vcore dips below 1.38 from what I've seen - load tends to be 1.4-1.48 at stock.

I'm likely to do a full re-install around weekend anyway so I'll make sure i have all the motherboards drivers and stuff involved then report back with some serious O/C findings.

As a side note, can you think of anywhere in Manchester city centre where i couldpick up a power monitor-plug thingy? Preferably around the Arndale area although Maplin on Oxford rd wouldn't be out of my way as well.

    Re: Folding Chit-Chat

My Sempy 140 has a stock vcore of 1.35v, which drops to 1.05v at idle with C&Q enabled. My work Opteron (which is basically a Phenom II X4) runs 1.3v at stock, dropping to 1.0v. My Q6600 used to sit at ~ 1.2v loaded, but didn't drop below 1.05v idle. I've noticed that Intel processors don't clock down as far or undervolt as far under EIST as AMD do under C&Q. But that said, if your vcore is sitting at ~ 1.45v stock, then that'll be what the 125W TDP is based off...

    tl;dr? If yours isn't dropping to < 1.1v, Cool'n'Quiet isn't working properly

As to places to buy power meters, Clas Ohlson in the Arndale do one for about a tenner, I think, and there's a new big Wilko's that might have some in as well. Nowadays Clas Ohlson tends to be my first stop for anything electrical, though.

Is this based on your rig on the left as well?
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.
