    windows live messanger 2011

What the hell have MS done?!?!?!?!

Just got an update so installed it and cant believe how awful it is.

The main interface now has a window showing the msn website which is bloaty imo and then instead of seperate windows to each chat they are all tabbed. Who thought that was a good idea???!?!?!

Can you actually minimize it to the tray on Win7 without any hacks?

ah ok just checked and its possible to turn off tabbed messages.

Clicking close on the msn window actually closes it down now

    Re: windows live messanger 2011

Yeah installed this, this morning. Not very impressed at first, but after beating it with a stick, I found how to get back to the old view and kill some other silly things. When will they realise all I want in MSN messenger is MSN messenger, a list of names with green dots next to them and the number of emails I have to avoid at the top.

    Re: windows live messanger 2011

    I like the new messenger.
I use the compact view which looks like the old messenger.
Im glad WLM finally has tabs for conversations. its far neater and better than having tons of separate windows.
Tabs are neater and better imo
The windows 7 integration is really good.

The new messenger is a big improvement. You can view your social feeds instead of the MSN homepage and as you've realised, anything else you dislike is configurable.

It never fails to amuse me how people will always dismiss *extra features* as bloat.

Tabs are bad? You open a new browser window for every website you want to visit? Also: nobody is forcing the latest version on you. The good ole' version will continue to work just fine.

I don't use the social feeds, but I still feel the new version is an improvement.

    Re: windows live messanger 2011

The last time I used MSN messenger I attacked it with a variety of patches to remove all the crap... isn't it still the same deal now?

it remembered my settings after i clicked it to compact, question is how do to get it to use your nickname instead of your full name ?

Capitalization is the difference between helping your Uncle Jack

Click on your name in the compact view, you'll get a drop down, "edit your name".

Ah sorry mate, didn't realise I have my nickname in the full name field. Not actually how I set it up, however long ago that was. Seems nicknames have gone, I can't find it.
