Had to temporarally stop folding :(

Shame really, I had been folding the last few weeks (Uni halls, free electricity), and today I decided to download CoreTemp... Q6600 was runing at 100'C, eeeek, and throttled right down, explaining why it was folding slowly... So opened it up and had a look at the cooler, full of dust, so will need a good clean out. Should be back up soon, does not seem to have done any damage, but I am slightly concerned as it must have been running at or close to 100'C for the last week without being shut down or anything .

Yup, strange that. But that may have been because the CPU was throttling itself down so didn't need to shut down.

For the entire time I lived in uni halls I've only ever vacuumed my room twice, I don't suppose you live in a room numbered 43?

Nope, although we are not allowed to vacume our own rooms, they get cleaned once every 6 weeks for us. Otherwise they stay dirty. I would otherwise have cleaned out the cooler with a vacume, however I will now need to find another way.

You can blow the dust out of the heatsinks with a compressed air flask, something like this:

I believe will404 when it says it, which is troubling, because I cannot begin to imagine why a university halls of residence would ever decree "do not clean your room" or at least "do not vacuum your room". It's not like you're using cleaning products that might damage the carpet.

Maybe it's due to electricity usage (unlikely since you're probably allowed a kettle) or more likely noise?
