Smoothwall 3 Help
OK before I sign up on ANOTHER forum just to get help, I'd ask you lot first.
Need a proxy to do web filtering and monitoring on our network. So I thought, ahh Smoothwall is free and does that kind of thing. So I downloaded it and installed it onto our virtual environment, setting up 2 NICs for a red and green. Technically the 'red' isn't red as its still on the same subnet, its not connected to our gateway router.
Anyway, set up the IPs etc, giving the Green and Red different static IP.
So I can log into the web system, and can check for updates. Note that we have to use a proxy in our browsers to access the Internet otherwise it won't work. I entered a proxy for the smoothwall to check for updates and this works, however I cannot ping or lookup any web addresses from the smoothwall itself. Neither if I set my browser proxy to the Green interface will it access the Internet. Comes up with proxy refusing access.
So ... any ideas, or if you want more clarification I'll provide it as best I can. Yes I have enabled the Web Proxy tick box. Its not transparent, because its not sitting directly between my computer and the gateway ... The DNS I have used our ISP ones, but have also tried our internal ones too.

Re: Smoothwall 3 Help
Exact same issue (but not the same setup) I had when I set mine up ~3 years ago
Have a look at my post on the Smoothie forums - see if it helps at all.
I've set ours up many times since, and so far, so good - I'd go as far as saying I understand it enough at last!

Hmm, maybe I skimmed too quickly - looked as though you had a similar issue.
Hope you get it resolved ;)
