    Anyone here use Win98se/WinMe?

Just wondering if anyone still uses any of the above OS's.

I run a WinME and WinXP dual boot, WinME for games and WinXP for all other stuff (work, internet, dvd writing etc).

I'm thinking of ditching WinME and just using XP only as WinME doesn't like my 200GB drive and I want to upgrade to 1GB of ram soon.

I used to use 98SE everyday for absolutely everything up until about a month ago when my computer died, and only XP would detect anyhardware properly (98SE, 2000, others didnt for some reason :S)

If I had a choice I would stick with 98SE for the reasont ath I know where all the options are etc, and its customised with everything I want/need etc.

Infact I would go so far as to say it is almost a crime to have a PC as good as yours and use Win ME with it!!

Since XP came out life has been a lot easier, do you think there are still benefits to the older OS's?

Use Win98se on an old Pentium box but only because it wouldnt run XP. Saying that I had 98se on my P4 1.5ghz sytem untill a few months ago (when it needed a reformat) and I could never complain about it.

ME is just a slower, buggier and less compatable version of 98se... zero point in havin it...

I have 98se on my old laptop (p233) but use XP pro/longhorn 4074 dual boot on my main machine

xp is NOT more user friendly. Its 2k with a bunch of crap on top and all of the simple things moved around so they cant be found, or used easly. and it looks crap, wait, I already said that....

i use 2k for my main pc and 98se for the rest.

lol i remember when xp came out every 1 said that they would stick to 98se or me hahahahhahah

i hate it now whenever i have to repair a machine with 98 on it and 9 out of 10 times i convince them to upgrade to xp

win 2k is good i did have it on my 2nd box but it lacks some of the things that make xp good so i changed it to xp

winME was a joke as microsoft admitted

some ppl say xp is slower than 98 and yes if you stick it on a p166 it will be

i remember installing 98 on hundreds of machines and i bet every single 1 of them crashed at some point while being loaded and tested
oo new smilies although the smilie box looks a mess too many different smile types

ok firstly get your facts straigt, then you can have your opinions =)

XP is not just 2k with a bunch of crap on top, its the best bits of the 2k kernel (its core basically) mixed with the best from 95/98. You get the stability, security and all over performance that 2k gives you and the compatability that 98(and se) gave. Along with a much prettier and more intutive UI. 2k is probably a better OS if you never play games, dont watch dvds, dont use your PC as a home computer basically, but if you do any of those then XP will probably suit you better - aslong as you have decent hardware ofc =)

2k is no more stable than XP is with all the patches applied. stop living in the past, XPs issues were resolved long ago.

Of course you are entitled to your opinion tho =)

I use my main pc (running 2k) for gaming, watching tv/dvd's etc. and basically don't see XP being any better for these - but thats just my opinion

surley there is only so long some of you chaps can grasp on to these date operating systems. like it or not Microsoft will force us all down their route, they are already planning to drop support for 98 and ME.
Dont get me wrong Win 98 was fantastic 5 years ago, but so was my Sega Megadrive and you dont see my playing games on that anymore!

Win 2K here too - I just don't get on with XP's skinning and turn everything off to make it look like 2K again so why bother 'upgrading'? Only when MS force the upgrade route (i.e. by not keeping 2K up to date) will I upgrade.

I tried ME out when it was released and found it about as good as the titanic... Went back to 98SE - which I never had many problems with - until I got 2000 and haven't looked back since... A nice stable OS...
