    I had the same problem when I changed the HDD in a fujitsu lifebook the key on the sticker wasn't accepted, Luckily I still had the old drive with the OS on it so put it back in and ran magic bean the key was not the same as the sticker apparently it's quite common I put back the new drive and it activated fine with the key I had recovered

    and this is the entire reason why MS moved from company specific OEM to 1 type of OEM.... its a HUGE pita doing it this way.


    its the PID code which defines which version of XP you have - if it says OEM in the PID then its the generic OEM version ; 000 is another version of OEM (`other` by the MS list) , but the companies have their own code numbers for each specific version.

    I used Magic Bean too when I found the sticker had come off which, as you know, you recommended to me. Great little programme, retrieved the XP key in a flash!

    I've used Magic bean on XP, Win7 and Win8 for a free program it's brilliant
