W7 Ent x64 - Copying says "Discovering items..."

You would have thought Microsoft should get copying of files and folders right - WRONG!

Trying to copy 700MB of data over to SMB share proves to be too much... Been stuck like that for 5+ minutes:

Explorer has been doing it ever since I put W7 on, normally it lasts for 4-5 seconds and starts to actually copy my stuff, other tool haven't had this problem i.e. DOpus/Total Commander.

    Any ideas?

    Ta,

    Adrian

I've had this feature several times with Win7 too. Very annoying. Hopefully SP1 will help. I've often seen it happen when deleting large files which have just been used.

There's another "feature" I've seen at work, where my Win7 doesn't show new items on network drives despite other XP PCs being able to see and use the files instantly. I always remove "remote differential compression", if that makes a difference.

There's yet another feature where I've seen that copying files between two different networked servers can silently "finish" when a random time has elapsed after the source or destination Explorer windows are closed.

Don't get me started on how Win7 deselects every file you've highlighted when you change the sorting. XP doesn't do that.

Hopefully SP1 will help with these problems.
