    Best NAS appliance for Vmware

I'm looking to create a storage appliance on VMware that isn't too fiddly to set up. I've set up freeNAS and that's just fine and I was wondering about peoples experiences with openfiler. A Couple of bonus features I'm interested in are an easy way to zero out the free space so I can reclaim space on thin provisioned disks and deduplication.
Does anyone have any experience with setting up a cluster on openfiler? Is it fiddly or pretty intuitive without any nasty surprises?

Re: Best NAS appliance for Vmware

A while ago while waiting for a SAN to arrive I setup Openfilter and used it as an iSCSI NAS for an ESX host. Setting it up was easy, I used this guide.

It worked very well, performance was OK but I only had a couple of VM's running at the time so I can't comment on how well it'll scale.

I've not done any openfiler clustering but its pretty easy to set up - last time I used it I dont think it auto zero'd or deduped though.

what does support dedupe is Nexenta community edition. its pretty hardcore but a good system.
