windows7 update failed

just had this update fail to install for some reason

i have tried it 2 times and now just gives me the above and no way to try again from what i can see.

it did restart after the first time i tried and then just would not even try to install it the second time and just said it failed to install.

i also had to tick a box to install this update which is normally automatic and it was about 4.3mb in size.

Do you have any other outstanding updates to install?

Microsoft is being stupid and Windows sometimes requires other updates to complete before you can install the one that constantly fails.

This iirc was an optional update, hence the lack of tick next to it.

SP1 is released now (probably what this is for given the description). Just download and install SP1 instead?

Now i haven't actually checked myself but a few on the Aria forums seem to suggest its 'out' today for tech subscribers and the like (?) before the release on Tuesday or the week after.

OK so it seems that it is the RC everyone was getting excited about, but the RTM is out to OEM's ready for a release in two weeks or less.

@Jetfire, if the updates are just there to prep for SP1 i wouldn't lose sleep over them and just go the SP1 route when it comes out as that should include all updates up to a certain point, including the ones required for update.

Update for Windows 7 (KB976902)

Rumour has it that this update will not work on illegal copies of Windows 7. But there also rumours it was designed to highlight illegal copies to Microsoft.

Either way there was alot of talk on Microsoft forums stating this update was classed as 'a black hole update' and alot of people avoided installing it.
