    24 bit audio editing

I have been converting some old cassettes (live concerts) recently. I decided to rip them at 24/96.

Does anyone know of some free software that's easy to use that I can use to insert track markers to save me chopping the .wav file up?

I used to use Sony CD Architect for 16bit files but that won't work with 24bit. Or should I say I can't burn the results.

Audacity? No idea if it will do it, but worth a shot and it's free.

The question remains: why capture in 24/96 in the first place? Even if you used very high end recording equipment to make the originals, and use a very good cassette deck, you are unlikely to need to the headroom that 24/96 allows you.

But you have them now, so the other way of doing it would be to convert the 24/96 recordings into 16/44.1 for every day use. Depending on how you intend to play them back, you may run into further problems being in high resolution.

Nakamichi DR10 is being used. The results are definitely better when compared to 16bit. I can easily convert to 16bit using dbPowerAmp.

I took a look at Audacity a while back, before I started ripping in 24/96. However, the addition of track markers was not easily done, or it wasn't immediately obvious how you did it.

Thanks for you suggestion; maybe I'll take another look.

The only other suggestions I have are:
    Sony Sound Forge - http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/soundforgesoftware
    Adobe Audition - http://www.adobe.com/products/audition/

They are a long way from being free however

    Re: 24 bit audio editing

I still use Cool Edit Pro 2 - which I believe is now Adobe Audition - and it certainly does offer markers in track.

But Im fairly sure Audacity will do markers.
