What DVD authoring software?

I need a software solution for burning DVD discs, either fairly cheap or, preferably, free?

I need to be able to load a number of source video files (AVI probably), do any encoding that's necessary, build and add a menu front-end and end up with a half-decent looking result, and do it without too much faffing about.

What does the group recommend?

Oh, and ImgBurn/AVI2DVD is my fall-back position (thanks to cptwhite_uk and his freeware list thread, and everyone that's contributed to it, for getting me that far). Any better options?

Windows Live Movie Maker 2011? I don't know your spec and hence whether you meet the Win 7/Vista requirement. It's free if you do, not sure on the menu options though.

Quad core running at 3.something (don't remember what I tweaked it to, or whether I untweaked again), 4GB, multiple HDs and Win 7 Ultimate.

I'm reluctant to use MS "Live" tools. Like Google, I just don't trust them. Will check out DVD Flick. That rings a bell from years ago, last time I did this.

I've used dvd styler in the past.
if you just want something straightforward it does the job fine, and it's free.

Using Convert XtoDVD 4. Does simple menus too.
