    xbmc live + myth?

hi ive just built a htpc! its all up and running fine with win7 and media portal..

i wanna give xmbc live ago.. because of its low cpu usage / speed compared to media portal.
i want to maybe install it on a usbstick / small partition on my hd then dual boot to win7! im happy enough doing this...

The thing ive been trying to get my head around is mythtv frontend for xbmc?

can some one explain how this works and what i need to do to get tv working in xbmc live..

i have a pinnacle 2000ii pci dual tv tuner.. will this work? ive yet to find a decent guide that explains how to get tv working in xbmc...

    thanx

Yeah there's an XBMC module for connecting to MythTV, so you can watch TV from XBMC. Since MythTV employs a client/server architecture, any client, including XBMC, can connect to it, give it instructions, and, well, watch whatever MythTV is tuned into.

    This should help: http://wiki.xbmc.org/?title=MythTV

Install Mythbuntu as the OS, it's a Ubuntu release with preset packages for a MythTV appliance, it has a handy little configuration panel as well, which makes things easier. Then all you'll need to do is install xbmc, if you still prefer that over the MythTV frontend.

Also on a side note, Mediaportal should get a significant speed up with future betas and the final of 1.2.0. There has been a lot of work going into various pieces of optinisation and bug fixes.

Just thought I should mention that

It's Maya I use on my system as well

There are some really cool things happening with 1.2.0 and onwards. And of course then there is MP2, which is starting to sounds really aweseme.

They're both Linux, only the live version wont have MythTV to connect to so you can configure your tuner.

    Re: xbmc live + myth?

I tried the Myth Frontend for XBMC on my zbox. The front end worked fine, i think i just had issues with the dongle i was using. The WinTV Nova-T USB worked occassionally but sometimes when booting the zbox the stick would not be recognised. A re-setup was needed each time. I got annoyed to the point i just went out and got Sky HD. Glad i did. So much easier to use and leaves my zbox free to play all my 1080p movies and tvshows.
