    Windows 7 Upgrade

    Hi,

This is probably a really stupid idea; but I was wondering if it is possible in theory.

I know that each product key can only be used on 1 pc, but what would happen if I did the following:

Reinstall XP on new HDD, upgrade to Windows 7 (using upgrade not full version), activate it.
Boot up old HDD on same PC.

I'm guessing that the old HDD would be asked to reactivate which would fail?

Would I have to buy the full version of windows 7 to still use XP on the old drive?

    Thanks

    Re: Windows 7 Upgrade

    that ought to work
    .
I had XP running on one machine, and wanted to install Win7 upgrade on another one. So while XP was live on my first PC, I used the same XP CD (OEM) to install on my new PC, which it did, and activated, then installed Win7 upgrade on top. No problem.
    Can you just............................?
