I can't get Windown Home Server Recovery CD to find the Server

    Hi guys

Having spent many hours on the net today I still can't suss what to do.

    Here's the situ.

Built brand new PC for my Dad, Win 7 Pro, and now it's all immaculate, fresh ang running, I have a spare HDD to clone this perfect install too.( Ignoring the fact that I can't get Win 7's built in disk imaging suite to actually extract the image and place it on a HDD... nother story nother day)

I have a WHS, and I have ALL of my PC's, Laptop etc, backed up to it. Confident that I can reinstall XP, Vista or WIn 7 (relevent PC's old and new) from the WHS.

Except... I backed up Dad's new PC to it, and then burned a WHS Recovery CD, and used it on his PC, with a new blank HDD in it... and the blummin PC can't find the server!

I have attempted to place the LAN drivers on a USB pen drive, and use those from the recovery suite, and it claims to have found them so I belivel the LAN setup isn't the issue.

So WHY can't this PC, with a new HDD, and a network cable to my router, which in turn goes to my WHS, find the Server?

Lots of discussion (and back ground noise) on forums around the world, ref the Routers not assisting the dead PC from finding the WHS.

My network skillz, run out, at this point. Totally.

There is a subject, covered on a few forums, where the router can be set to be part of the Workgroup, and I believe that would assist the finding of the server... but I dunno.

    Any idea?

I've had this problem before. I think the end I just attached it directly to the WHS box via a switch, or possibly even a plain old crossover cable, and that did the trick.

    Can't remember exactly though.

Trying to connect by IP or hostname? I assume that you have confirmed that your network connectivity (correct ip/subnet/dns and all that malarkey) are working?

But there in lies the issue....

The drivers he's downloaded, if a 64bit version, will fail hopelessly in the 32bit PE environment.
