Do not put AV on a WHS server - just keep the OS up-to-date. AV is required on the clients, not the server.
yes and no, if you've got the CPU spare, putting anti-virus on a file server is quite a handy idea. It reminds me of a kid I was mentoring who said something about an STD not really been a problem for him, because its the birds who get made infertile. Luckily I don't think he was really sexually active at all.
The problem is it doesn't fit in to the management console, or rather i've not seen one that has (i've not looked)...
throw new ArgumentException (String, String, Exception)
i've been using CLam AV for WHS
doesn't use up too much resource, is specifically designed for WHS so integrates into the console, its free...i can't think of any bad points really
if it ain't broke...fix it till it is
A year or so ago, there were quite a few commercial WHS AV products, now almost all have vanished.
Other than Clam AV that I see mentioned from time to time, the only other one I could find that could still be obtained was Avast.
I dont know if there will be a resurgence in WHS AV software now that WHS2011 is getting closer to release.
If not, commercial versions will need to be the Server editions, which are usually quite expensive.
I'm not too familiar with WHS, but would something like MSE not work? Or won't normal Windows apps work?
Ah I wasn't aware of that, I thought with it being aimed at home users it would be able to use normal apps, or be a stripped down OS you couldn't install anything on i.e. just use plug-ins/add-ons/modules or something.
