were can u get the free version did u say?
i didn't.
it's not a free product.
$49.95 for the os or $19.95 for the livecd (not installable) version, in ISO form ($10 extra for CD)
they occasionally run promotons where the OS is distributed for free, I have both LinspireLive and Linspire 4.5 from this (offers are frequently on osnews.com if anywhere). once you have the os, you have to pay $5 a month for access to software - it comes stripped to the bone, and whilst you can compile all your apps yourself it somewhat takes away the "simplicity" point.
yeh i found a free 'coupon' and it works.but i had to dl a prog.called bittollarent or sum sh*t...anyhow had loads of spyware lol! so took it off. shame as i still want linspire![]()
bittorrent is a protocol for the distribution over peer-to-peer of large files. it's fairly popular for linux cd distribution, and it is the preferred method used by linspire for distributing their free coupon versions.
there are hundreds of bittorrent clients, most of which are on sourceforge.net, including g3torrent, azureus, abc, bittorrent++
So there is already a thread for this...Ok, so I am wondering is Linspire 4.5 the way to go? Is it better then windows XP Pro? I'd give it a try if yous think it would make my PC run better (faster
)... Does it use a page file... If so can I disable it??

heh, way to make me laugh myth :> /google what is linux
er, if your northbridge fan is humming loudly, disconnect it. _dont_ kick the side of the case, it _will_ break it.
i know :/
I tried lindows... quite frankly the fact they expect people to pay for the rubbish they have produced is rather laughable.
I would recommend Xandros ahead of any other distro for starting out on linux, its freely available (as well as having other paid for versions you can get) and with the combination of crossover office that you can buy and install in about 2 clicks using the xandros networks software you can run rather a lot of windows based applications.
No the above thing is not like the C'N'R warehouse... it is xandro's version of synaptic (a gui for apt-get) and has an added area called "shop" they arent necessary upgrades for the operating system (like lindows like to do with their acpi and klaptop bits and bobs) that you have to pay for. but rather items such as staroffice, crossover office, and other utilities that are commercial linux distributions, they are there if you think you would like them.
I found lindows sluggish on startup, and not just on the first reboot, it took over 45 seconds to boot up on my laptop which is a 1500+ mobile, 256mb ram. Xandros takes around 10 or 15 seconds, think of an xp startup and you've got it.
Its installer resized my ntfs partitions and installed itself in around 5 clicks, and in 20 mins and one single reboot I was up and running, networked at home and sharing the net and files on my other windows machines with no need to configure anything at all!.
Linspire/Lindows = terrible.
Xandros = Fantastic.
of course there are other distro's out there, in particular mandrake (I didnt like due to its apparant clunkyness *hard to explain*), and I would recommend fedora if you want to get your hands a little more dirty
If your thinking of lindows, try the Xandros Open circulation edition firstyou will be impressed im sure.
