Well, it's been a month of ups and downs. It started with the realisation that team Hexus are a whisker away from the colossal 100 million point landmark.
To put that figure into perspective, if I were to fold just on my Intel E8600 processor at stock speeds 24/7/365 that would take me over 900 years to achieve. Unless your Intel processor is made out of the same stuff that the Harrier Jump Jets from the film "Battlefield Earth" are made out of (i.e. Hollywood magic and disregard for anything remotely factual), then I think you may need the help of a small army: Cue Hexus.
Several users came to answer the call documented by the Hexus news team in a bid to grab a little of the limelight, only to miss the challenge set down by less that a million points. Sounds a lot to miss by, but when you've pumped out 11.2 million points vs a prior best of 8.8 million (December 2010) IN THE SHORTEST MONTH, well, you know that this has grabbed the folding community's imagination.
The month ended with the Hexus score at 99,237,759 so the quest to reach 100 million still goes on. Who will get us over the mark? When will it be? Stay tuned in to the Distributed computing sub-forum to find out. Better still, pull up a chair, crack open a cold been and come and join in!
While personal bests have been recorded, another significant development occurred. In the dying hours of February, we had a new number 1 folder! 1stRaven's relentless commandeering of his works servers to test almost to failure by folding meant that he finally caught the reigning number 1 spot from Hexus stalwart LOWE, claiming it for his own. We will have a feature on the man of the moment to follow...
and now the numbers.....
