New versions of Folding software shout outs...

Thought I'd start a new thread so that we can see when something new is out rather han it being lost in our general banter....

A new version of HFM is out:

    http://code.google.com/p/hfm-net/

It seems to recognise cores that were listed as "UNLISTED" previously.

    New Folding Client...

    http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.ph...=18034&start=0

    The post reads....

    Beta Testers,

I am happy to announce that after many months of development and testing the new version 7 Folding@home client software is now available for open-beta testing. The V7 client is a complete rewrite of the previous client for Windows, OS-X and Linux with the following goals:

To make the installation and startup user-friendly for the novice.
To integrate the user interface into a single Monitor/Control program that manages the functionality previously contained in separate clients.
To create a forward-looking design that can be readily expanded to incorporate new Folding Cores without the need to issue new client releases.
To greatly improve previously problematic aspects including support for SMP, GPU, and the 3D viewer.

    ...

Will try once got new high speed folding server up and running.... Probably at the weekend.

Re: New versions of Folding software shout outs...

Will definitely be giving this a go. It sounds like it doesn't actually involve any new folding cores though, so presumably it won't improve performance on AMD GPUs? I might stick it on the HTPC anyway just to see how it goes

Re: New versions of Folding software shout outs...

Looking good, just finished an SMP WU so uninstalled everything & reinstalled from scratch, looks much nicer, setup is very easy, if you're folding SMP + GPU then you just add a 'slot' for whatever you didn't add during installation (so for me GPU) Not sure how my 5850 will perform though (was this sorted in this new release or are we waiting for drivers to sort the 'problem' ?)

EDIT: Seems it should increase PPD on ATI cards, will let you know how long this WU takes & the point so we can work out the PPD although not sure if bonus has now been reset for GPU & or SMP (?)

I'm still getting shockingly low credit for my WUs though, 800 odd! What's going on?!

Re: New versions of Folding software shout outs...

Definitely recheck your passkey. The unit you're folding is definitely an SMP unit as it's the same project and base credit as the one I'm currently working on, so the only possible explanation is that you're not getting bonus points. You should get them regardless as long as you fold under the same username and passkey on all machines: when I fired up SMP on Kali I got bonus points from my first WU. So unless some of your earlier CPU units *weren't* SMP so they're not counting towards your first ten, I'm not sure.

Yup, definitely check and re-check the passkey. If anything, try getting another one, maybe?

I've set up this client and it puts only 33% load on my gpus O_o

Did anyone else ran this on hd69xx cards? I wonder if this problem affects everyone

I, for one, don't get any PPD reported in FAHControl.

    Anyone else have this issue?

Re: New versions of Folding software shout outs...

For SMP yes, for GPU no.

Submitted a GPU WU last night, it's not registered any points!

Control client now also playing up, says it closed unexpectedly (it didn't, I closed it last night via the app) Now it gives an error on startup &won't connect so looks like I've lost progress on another SMP WU. Going to reboot & see what happens.

Re: New versions of Folding software shout outs...

Stuck in offline mode, nothing I tried appears to work, no log file generated as the app suggests there is.

Uninstalled for now as I can't be bothered messing around with it for the measly points I'm getting from running it all day (not to mention missing GPU WUs!)

I'll probably stick with the older client as well, just will let this one unit finish. No reason to use this at all, since I don't have a 5000/6000 series Radeon.

It didn't report 2 of my completed WU's either. Anyway, I'm back to boinc as that platform seems a lot more mature, uses my gpus at max load and I dont need to fiddle with it all the time.

The 6.34 SMP client is quite solid, I haven't had any problems with it.

It's this new beta v7 client that's not playing nice.

Re: New versions of Folding software shout outs...

My 2nd GPU WU went through ok this time, 511, bonus can't be kicking in yet for some reason, maybe the change of GPU/CPU has reset it.

1500 for an SMP WU, took a good few hours (not sure as new client doesn't keep that log?!) certainly nowhere near 12K PPD

A 2nd edition of the v7 beta client.

    Anyone fancy trying this?
