    Win7 FTP server

Can anyone suggest an FTP server for Win7 64bit?

I've tried getting the inbuilt server working, but can't tell whether it's my server config or something with the login from the N2200 that's the problem. The next stop is either install WireShark or a different FTP server, and the server means less brain ache

I'm trying to use the RSync feature of my N2200 to backup to a drive on my main PC.

    Corsair Air 540, Asus Prime X570-Pro, Win 10 Pro, AMD R9 3900X, Corsair HX 750, EVGA 1080 Ti, 2x Corsair 2TB MP600, 2x 2TB WD20EZRX, 4x8GB Corsair Dominator, custom watercooled (single loop, 2 rads)
    Corsair 550D, Asus X470-Prime Pro, Win 10 Pro, AMD R7 2700, Corsair RM750i, Asus GTX780 Poseidon, 2x Sammy 500GB 970 EVO, 2x 2TB Seagate Barracuda, 2x8GB Corsair Vengeance, custom watercooled (single loop, 2 rads)
    Synology DS918+ w/ 2xWDC Green 3TB + 2x Seagate Barracuda 6TB, N2200 w/ 2xSammy 1.5TB
    backup:
    Corsair 500R, Gigabyte GA-Z97MX Gaming 5, Win 10 Pro, i5 4690, Corsair HX750i, Sapphire Fury X, 256GB Sammy SM951 M.2 (System), WD SE16 640GB, 2x8GB Corsair Vengeance, Corsair H100i

Windows has an FTP service with IIS. I'd just use that.

Always used Filezilla, found it to be pretty robust and easy to use

I don't know how to take a comment like that.

I have tried to set up IIS, and whilst I must have accidentally managed to bumble my way through the settings given my total lack of how to use one of those new fangled computer things, to the point where I can get an FTP client to connect to it, what I can't do is get the N2200 to connect to it.

Rather than setup WireShark, trap the IP logs and analyse the problem which may not even get out of the N2200, I thought I'd be lazy and just try a 3rd party FTP server. Dunno why I even thought about tracing the IP traffic though... I wouldn't be able to understnad those new fangled proto-thingy-macol stuff...

/em frantically searches for the "Thank you for calling me an idiot" button.

And before you leap to further amazing conclusions, Yes, I've Yahoo'd... sorry, Googled.

    Re: Win7 FTP server

Why do you need FTP server in order to use rsync?

    Re: Win7 FTP server

The N2200 will not recognise my external USB drive as a device to which it can back upto. Having read the documentation, it will only write to a USB drive formatted as FAT32. As I've some rather large files (>2GB) on the N2200, unless I'm mistaken, I can't use that format.

So, the inbuilt USB backup or the scheduled backup module are about as much use as a chocolate teacup.

I then look at the NSync/RSync options. Both can either allow me to backup to a compatible device or to an FTP server. I'm not going to buy another NAS so backup this one, which leaves me with the option of FTP. I've configured IIS on the target PC, and have setup the USB drive as the store. I can connect to that FTP server from a PC client, but when I try to use the N2200, I keep getting a failed connection when testing it.

So, I don't know whether I've borked something in the N2200 configuration, the FTP server configuration or the very simple IP network in the middle.

Now if you can come up with another way I can backup a 3TB N2200 to a 3TB USB drive without buying any more kit, then I'm all ears.

Couldn't you just configure a Robocopy job as a scheduled task on the target PC? Sure, you'll be using SMB rather than rsync, but it'll work and take about 5 minutes (if that) to configure.

I know sweet fanny adams about the N2200, but if it's running vanilla rsync (as opposed to some bastardised proprietary version), would DeltaCopy be any use?
