    Anyone got any PDF DRM Experience?

    as per title really, need to look into PDF DRM for a magazine distribution.

    ideally to work on all platforms including ipad/iphone/ipod touch...

    any help to point me in the right direction would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

    Most PDF DRM is based on the client honoring what it should not do, for example xpdf can be change top allow you to cut n paste by changing one line of code. Any DRM system that allows the end user to see a plain text form is fundamentally flawed. You can only protect things from third parties whom you do not wish to know the secret.

    hmmm, its all very confusing...

    how do you authorise someone to read PDF's...

    I understand that most of the DRM systems out there are easily cracked, but we just need to stop non techies grabbing the PDF's and emailing them to all thier friends, thereby reducing the number of people subscribing...

    sure technical people can unlock them in minutes and send them anyways, but chances are not too many people that read this particular mag will be able to do so. - it'd be easier to share the login that they use to download them in the firstplace anyway.

    I'm just not so sure how PDF DRM works;

    what we want:

    to be able to lock PDF's as they download from web server to the individual computer they are being downloaded by.
    to not be easily shared around.
    to be then viewable offline on whatever it was they downloaded it on, be it laptop, tablet pc, ipod, ipad, iphone etc.

    is this even possible with pdf drm?

    Adobes solution, a content server which requires a plug in on the persons computer etc. There are other DRM vendors however all (real ones) require a plug-in or program to operate. Programs are more secure, but plug-ins are simpler for users.
