    Question dual boot linux + xp?

    how do i dual boot mandrake 10.0 with xp?didnt work last time...windows error.. ops:

    I'm very sure there would be a tutorial somewhere on the net. Usually you would install windows first and then linux afterwards assigning a necessary partition to the linux install. It worked for me last time i did it and i got to choose which one i wanted to boot on startup.

    do what kezzer said install windows xp first then install linux afterwards on its own hard drive or partition make sure you install lilo though when it asks makes the dual boot menu a lot easier to understand

    nah lilo is crap if its wat im thinkin of...is it like light blue and white.thats what screwed it up in the first place.

    there are two popular loaders, lilo and grub.

    i'm using grub, as it's the default on debian sid. i understand lilo a lot better

    generally, lilo's the one that says "lilo" on it, grub's the one that says "grub" on it

    well i dont remember as it screwed up, and i reformat straight away after it screwed itself.

    its not lilo that would of screwed up but most likely you have created the partitions for linux incorrectly, its very fussy as to what it wants.

    plus, if in soubt, you can recover the windows boot loader by booting your nt5 cd, going into the recovery console when prompted, and running "fixmbr"
