I've got 11.04 installed now on my laptop (HP DM1), and it runs pretty well, all graphical nobs and whistles work well as far as I can see (i like the wibbly-wobbly windows ).
It even sucessfully upgraded from my previous 10.10 install which was done via Wubi, and I wasnt sure if that would update correctly or not (ie with grub etc), but can confirm that it works this way.

I also am liking unity, and certainly give credit for them trying a graphical shell environment which thinks in a different way to Windows, however i'm not 100% convinced that its better than gnome. Maybe i just need to become more familiar with it...

Now if only they will work with Valve to get Steam on it with a few games (doesnt have to be anything dramatic, porting Defense Grid will make me happy) then I can remove my Windows installation (although i probably wouldnt anyway).
I'm commenting on an internet forum. Your facts hold no sway over me.

Now that Steam has been ported to Mac, and so games being ported to OpenGL, I reckon it's only a matter of time before we see Steam appear on Linux.

I certainly like Unity on my laptop and netbook. Although on my 24" monitor, I'm still unconvinced by it. It kinda feels out of place to have dynamic elements attempting to save space on such a large resolution display. I think I might like it more if I could optionally sticky the sidebar, for example.

Re: Ubuntu 11.04 (Natty Narwhal) has been released

Booted 11.04 off a USB key yesterday to save a laptop with a duff registry, couldnt get the hang of Unity - but as soon as I found Terminal I could crack on with my fixing...

My HTPC runs Ubuntu (10.10) and I might upgrade but disable Unity - no need for it on a 1080p TV when all I want to use is either XBMC or Firefox

Just to say went in fine with VirtualBox and now playing with it. Seems to work really well so far, no issues.

Re: Ubuntu 11.04 (Natty Narwhal) has been released

Installed on my netbook for speed and space saving. Its my first foray into the world of linux so I dont really have any prejudices. I like the unity system and think it works well on my netbook. I had to patch the kernel to get everything to work but its all good now.

Not sure that I'd want it on my main computer, though I use my right hand monitor as my main one with the start menu on that side whereas in ubuntu it goes to the left one. I'm sure that I could move it over easily enough but on the left hand side of the right hand monitor doesnt really work for me. I know its probably easy enough to change or go back to gnome but tbh this computer is pretty fast and with the SSDs in raid theres not too much difference between windows and ubuntu.

So in summary great for my netbook and laptop, not really worth the bother of changing things around on my main desktop. Its been a good introduction to linux in general and have tried out a load of different distros since. (loving lucid puppy)
