    Had enough of Firefox.

I've had enough of Firefox. Over the years it has been becoming more and more bloated and the latest patch has meant that I cannot do credit card verifications with my bank because FF has decided it cant handle the little frames (tried several sites) and also I could no longer download videos from you tube.

So, having found a video downloader and discovering that adblock was also available for Chrome I have ditched FF after 5 years and I'm now a Chrome user.

    Bye Bye foxy

I did exactly the same a few months ago, just got fed up of how sluggish everything felt.

Haven't missed it, I have to say.

    Re: Had enough of Firefox.

I was a FF user for years, and I have to agree, lately it's become slower and very prone to munching the memory. I switched to Chrome a few months ago and haven't looked back as well.

The ad blocker I use isn't as good as the one on FF, but it's decent enough.

You guys tried FF4? I honestly find it hard to notice the difference between it and Chrome.

    Re: Had enough of Firefox.

I've been using Chromium for over a year. I had enough with Mozilla and their wonky priorities. Too much 'innovating' (UI tinkering, is all) and virtually zero bug fixing. There's been inherent memory management bugs in it for half a decade and they haven't bothered looking at the problem at all. Chromium is much snappier on loading, and smoother and more responsive scrolling anyway, and that's just software rendering.

    Re: Had enough of Firefox.

I've not seen a more recent rise in memory munching with FF, I swear its a case of Microsoft making windows report private byte usage rather than just physical.

Its been a bloater for a few years, and call me a luddite but I really didn't much care for tabbed browsing until the Chrome/Opera style UI came along.

Also not sullying my clean hands with HTML I never really got in to the whole FF is cool thing.

    Re: Had enough of Firefox.

I've been reading comments for years about how Firefox is bloated, sluggish and a memory hog, and I sometimes wonder if I'm doing something wrong, or if I'm even using the same browser. I can honestly say I've never experienced any of these problems.

The current versions of the main browsers all seem about equally fast to me, both loading and rendering pages, but FF's overall functionality still swings it for my purposes.

Well it hasn't particularly risen of late, but it has never been fixed, either. The problem is persistent across platforms.

    Re: Had enough of Firefox.

I tried to migrate to chrome twice, the first time the addon situation wasnt really mature enough, I couldnt replace all my FF addons, and the second time I just didnt get on with it. I have it installed, along with Opera, but Firefox4 is my default and I'm loving it!

I'm probably just set in my ways!

No, I haven't. To be honest though, unless I have a particularly compelling reason to try a different browser, I probably won't bother.

Even if it only takes 10 minutes to download and test, it's 10 minutes I'd rather spend doing something else

    Re: Had enough of Firefox.

On Windows, the only complaint I've ever had about Firefox is that it was 'clunky' on start up and shut down. Before FF4 it was getting increasingly slow to start up, possibly more so as you add more addons, and while it's not as quick as Chrome, with FF4 to me it's comparable now.

More to the point, I feel it's a more rounded and customisable experience for me. As Champman99 said, maybe I'm just set in my ways, but despite continuing to try out a Chromium-based browser, I just haven't clicked with it yet.

@blueball, it was probably just your profile. I can't recall coming across and incompatible websites, banks included with Firefox for a few years, short of the odd ActiveX educational/government site at the school I work at.

    Re: Had enough of Firefox.

Im also on the verge of going elsewhere, since I took on FF4 my browsing has slowed down quite markedly. I do use Slimbrowser as an aid to reducing memory resources, its not too shabby, but will prolly now look at Chrome too.
    Cheers, David

Can't say that I find FF4 a memory hog. but that said I've been a long time IE user who has only just recently just seen the light.
