    I've used Norton Ghost for this before.. imo it's the decent program Norton has written.

    In Windows 7 the system image backup does a pretty good job - you will need a network or 3rd hard drive (USB is fine) to image to, then boot of the recovery CD with the new 1tb drive in the PC and restore away.

    .... true! I've also done this using Ghost and also Acronis under Windows 7, and it's worked fine. (from Hirens boot disk)

    Not sure if this would work but I used this last time I did something similar:

    It cloned my hard drive pretty quickly as well and my computer is kinda slow and has loads of stuff on it (around 40 mins)

    as the OP bought the drive in June and it's almost september and he hasn't replied in months, i think we can assume he's cloned the drive and he doesn't need any more suggestions
